Although Windows Essentials (which includes Movie Maker) is not supported (won't get any updates) anymore, you still can download the offline installer. During the installation you can choose which programs you want to install. May 4, 2018: I won't participate anymore in MC. Enough is enough.

Go to the downloads folder and the .exe file is there. I found a site where I was able to download MM 2.6. No need to answer the question. Windows Movie Maker 2.6 (WMM 2.6) is based off of the old WMM 2.1 from Windows XP.

First, there is no"2.7 XP version". I think you are referring to the Windows Vista version of Windows Movie Maker 2.6 that is basically a CPU-only version using the XP code for those on Vista that didn't have a powerful enough GPU. The version after that is Windows Movie Maker 6.0 which had both a 64-bit version and GPU rendering of effects ...
