The steps to reset the authenticator app depends on the type of account you are using. From the category on your question, you are using an education account. For Education account the user account is managed by the school IT administrator. To reset the Authenticator app, you need to contact the IT admin.

It appears to accept the finger print but doesn't unlock the app. If she chooses the option to"Enter Passcode", the keyboard never comes up. Meanwhile, I would suggest you to go to myaccount.microsoft.com and then to Security Info and delete your Authenticator App sign in method and then add again.
