Moy sees the particular strengths of an academic background that combines technical engineering knowledge with policy. Many of the most serious problems we face today, like climate change, are too complex to be addressed by technology alone.

For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
“For an undergraduate to produce such high-impact research is very impressive, let alone being first author on a scientific paper before they graduate,” says Professor Aimy Bazylak (MIE), EngSci’s Associate Chair for Research. Read more about Naireen’s research in The Varsity.
As with Core 8 students, EngScis can easily transfer into other U of T Engineering programs. However, EngSci is a “direct entry only” program, meaning it is extremely difficult to transfer into EngSci from another program. This makes it seem like EngSci has more people leaving than other programs, which is not really accurate.

“This really made it clear that we are not alone, and we can overcome anything.” Their trip was partially funded by U of T Engineering’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Professionalism. Over the course of this academic year, the office is supporting several student groups as they attend conferences in Canada and beyond.
A team of U of T students is preparing to see their research take off next week. They are among just six university teams from across Canada selected to conduct a study in a microgravity environment aboard the National Research Council Canada’s (NRC) Falcon-20 jet — the same plane used to train the Canadian Space Agency’s astronauts.
