I have a digital nyt subscription as i read the paper, do crosswords and other games and use the nyt cooking section. They have specials frequently. The standalone games (crosswords, bee, etc) is about $3 a month if you catch a good special and pay for the whole year ($36 to 40) at once.

Past puzzles full rollout. I know I made a post about this already, but it seems like the NYT is finally bringing out the option to play past Spelling Bees. If you click on"Yesterday" to view yesterday's puzzle, it will now also give you the option to"View past puzzles". Clicking on it will take you to the Bee archive.

If you want hints then under Hints in the game app it jumps to a NYT daily post with the # of pangrams (PG is a word that uses all the letters at least once and there is one every day but sometimes more), total number of words, # of words that start with each letter, word length etc.

The free game ends once you've hit a set percentage of the total available points. The total available points vary from day to day. There is a point limit for non-subscribers. Also, even if you have a paid subscription, there can be issues where you are logged out, so check that you're properly logged in.
It's getting to the point that I find myself staying awake until midnight and playing as soon as it comes out (PST time zone here). Edit: minutes after posting this I ran across this link to a Spelling Bee clone that allows you to regenerate letter combinations. (Thank you u/heckinwoofs **!)**.
