I am designing a Guard rail in Tampa, Florida and I did a lot of research to figure out the Deflection limitations but couldn't find actual solid resource. can you please provide me the resource for the deflection limitation when I apply 50 PLF or 200 Lbs on the top rail or vertical post.
Ballsack (Structural) 19 Oct 18 01:58. Aluminum is an anode so it is recommended to prevent contact to stainless steel or other cathodes to prevent corrosion of the anode. Ex. use of top hat washer to prevent contact of stainless steel bolt and galvanized steel section. If the anode is a much larger component compared to the cathode, corrosion ...
FloridaPE (Structural)14 Aug 06 22:07. ADC, The monolithic footing, or turned down slab edge, is primarily a means of terminating the slab pour without have the masonry crew show up to lay two courses of block (in Florida where we have no frost line). This type of foundation can typically support a one-story residential structure with no problem.
Heat treat AD rivets. Recently heard one of our customers heat treat AD rivets to about 200 F for one hour prior to installation so they drive easier. As a structural repair tech and current instructor I have never heard of this practice. My concern is they are annealing the rivets and they will never handle the design loads.
Tampa (Automotive) (OP) 4 Jun 10 12:57. Have issues with 8620 deep case carburized pins, spalling by bearing rollers and have tried 9310 with better results because of the higher core hardness but 9310 barely meets the hardness spec of 60/62 Rc (after finish grinding). Thinking about a tool steel with high toughness like A2 which would easily ...
it really depends on what you are constructing and who is paying for it. for highways, dams, levees, or other heavy construction, all may be different than recommended above (Okiryu's reference touches on this). additional/minimum testing is required per day, per shift, per lift, per material change, when high or low values of density or MC pop up, or as the engineer sees fit, etc.
In regards to the Ka and Ko values I believe if we want to have minimal effect we use Ko which tampa confirmed, but my main question was because Ka and Kp are relative is that if you use Ko can that affect the value you take for Kp? for example the angle is 30 degrees then Ka would equal 0.3333333 and 1/0.33333 (1/Ka) gives you your Kp value of 3.
NFPA 13 (2010) 8.15.7.2 states that sprinklers can be omitted from beneath projections that are non-combustible. Period. Nothing about the occupancy above the overhang is mentioned. However, the corresponding annex material A8.15.7.2 states that areas under exterior ceilings where the building is sprinklered should be protected due to the ...
Hello-I have a flat roof onto which I am interested in installing some solar panel arrays. As I am in a high wind area (design is ~145 mph), I either need to penetrate the roof 50+ times to anchor the panel mounting rails, or use a ballasted system and avoid the penetrations altogether.
Full disclosure: in a Tampa Bay native but got my Engineering training and experience in Virginia. I still speak enough Florida Man to figure our the peculiarities, though. One thing to keep in mind, a lot of engineers use prescriptive standards as minimums. If something goes wrong, it's a lot harder to prove it was your fault...
